Every year the Mayor sends out a New Year celebration card to citizens within the Chinese community.
2010 is the year of the Tiger. According to the Chinese Zodiac, the Year of 2010 is the Year of the Tiger,
which commences on February 14, 2010 and ends on February 2, 2011. The Tiger is the third sign in the
Chinese Zodiac cycle, and it is a sign of bravery.
 
This courageous and fiery fighter is admired by the ancient Chinese as the sign that keeps away the three
main tragedies of a household. These are fire, thieves and ghosts. In accordance with the Chinese beliefs
I worked with the number 8 throughout the design of the piece; having 8 folds, ensuring dimensions were
divisible by 8, and 8 point type was used. To further reinforce the passing on of good fortune, gold and
red was used as symbols of wealth and prosperity. This hanging card could also be used as a fan. Custom
stickers and tassel were also added as decorative elements.
